In an effort to protect the lives of newborn infants, Ellen Schutt of Clinton is introducing new legislation to expand on safe haven laws.

Schutt says the bill would allow municipalities to install a newborn infant safety device at a hospital, fire station, or law enforcement agency building and thereby allow a parent to anonymously relinquish a child under the age of 72 hours.

Schutt says this issue in particular hits close to home after a baby was found in a field in nearby Whitewater in March of this year, and she heard from people in the community that installing these types of devices would be beneficial in saving lives.

Schutt says she’s already received bipartisan support from her colleagues at the capital.
