The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is encouraging Rock County residents with a passion for conservation to apply for a seat on the county’s Deer Advisory Council.

Deer Program Specialist Jeff Pritzl says the councils were formed in 2014 and allows representatives from the hunting community to provide recommendations to the DNR regarding deer management decisions in their county.

Pritzl says Rock County in particular provides a unique challenge because in rural areas deer habitat is so unevenly distributed you have low deer density in some area and high density in others, and the city’s of Beloit and Janesville can make getting a good harvest difficult.

People can apply on the DNR’s website until August 15th.
