A member of the Janesville Police Department hopes a popular downtown Splash Pad is a good back drop for a public safety cookout.

School Resource Officer Benny Rocha says he wanted to put on an event where youth and members of the community could get to know the people behind the uniforms a little bit better.

Rocha says he’s reached out to the Janesville Fire Department, 911 Dispatch, and the Rock County Sheriff’s office about taking part in the event, and if it goes well they can bring it back next year and move around to different locations.

Rocha says the cookout will be held August 9th on Festival Street.
