Two new officers are joining the Janesville Police to help a department dealing with a number of retirements.

Chief David Moore says they aren’t seeing the 300 plus applicants for officer positions they were seeing a year ago, but they have been fortunate to attract high quality candidates who end up being high quality officers.

Moore says he looks for people who have empathy and care for each other and the citizens, and they can always train officers to do the things necessary for the job but they need to have the ability to care for the community.

The new hires will spend eight months of training at the academy and in the field before they head out on their own.
