A water rate increase could be in store for citizens of Janesville.

Monday night the Janesville City Council voted unanimously to allow the city manager to file a simplified water rate increase case with the Public Service Commission.

Utility Director Dave Botts says if approved by the PSC, the City would be eligible for an eight percent increase effective 45 days after the application was filed.

Botts says costs to operate the Janesville water utility continue to increase while revenue has remained stagnant for the last four years.

The last time water rates were increased was 2019.
