Tragedy strikes over the Labor Day weekend after a child drowns at a South Beloit lake.

According to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, first responders were called to Pearl Lake early Saturday afternoon where life-saving measures were performed on a six-year-old child after they were pulled from the water.

The child was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead a short time later.

The incident remains under investigation.
