Five attorneys have already declined to take the case of a Janesville teen charged with robbing a woman at gunpoint and fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle.

17-year-old Ishmail Gill appeared before Rock County Court Commissioner Jack Hoag Monday morning for what was supposed to be his preliminary hearing on charges of armed robbery, receiving stolen property, and operating a vehicle without consent.

Because Gill hadn’t been assigned an attorney from the public defender’s office yet, Hoag ordered that the case go before a judge so that they could order that an attorney be assigned.

Gill is accused of robbing a woman who was walking her dogs at gunpoint and then leading police on a short chase in a stolen vehicle.

He is currently being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
