The Janesville City Council unanimously voted Monday night to approve giving $2 million to the Rock County Children’s Museum to build a new downtown facility.

Council Member Richard Neeno says the style of leaning at the museum is critical because it’s different than what kids get in the classroom, and the museum offers an opportunity to kids who otherwise may not have the ability to partake in that type of learning.

Council President Paul Benson says in the past the city has struggled to keep and attract young families, and the museum could aid in keeping people local.

The museum is also slated to ask the Rock County Board for $500,000 towards the campaign during their regular meeting Thursday.
