Cash bond is set at $1000 for a 46-year-old Beloit man accused of punching his 71-year-old mother in the head five times over a political disagreement.

Matthew Gastonguay made his initial appearance before Rock County Court Commissioner Jack Hoag this week on charges of physical abuse of an elder person and disorderly conduct.

In addition to the cash bail, Hoag ordered that Gastonguay have no contact with his victim, not possess any weapons, and maintain absolute sobriety.

Gastonguay was previously convicted of felony bail jumping and sexual assault of a child in Illinois in 2004, battery as a hate crime in 2007, and aggravated battery in 2011.
