Lions Beach in Janesville is closed until further notice.

A release from the city says the recreation division takes weekly water samples that are tested by the state hygiene lab in Madison to monitor for E. coli.

The city says the beach’s most recent water quality test performed this week showed elevated bacteria levels in the swimming area, causing the beach to close.

Bacteria counts at the beach vary throughout the season depending on usage and environmental factors such as rainfall.

The beach will be closed until further testing can be done and lower bacteria levels are found.
