The Janesville Plan Commission approves a new 2,800 square foot greenhouse on the Rotary Botanical Gardens property in two unanimous votes this week.

The new structure on Sharon Street will allow staff and volunteers at the gardens to grow plants that would otherwise not be possible at the 20 acre property.

Interim Executive Director Randy Hughes says currently RBG is buying tropical plants at one foot in height and throughout the season they are able to obtain five feet in height, but there isn’t currently a place for the plants to remain during the off season.

Hughes says the project is being funded thanks to a generous donation.
