The Rock County Human Services Department may have to cut some full time staff positions as part of the 2024-2025 budget.

Director Kate Luster says when deciding what cuts to make they have to determine if eliminating a position directly decreases services, removes essential operational supports, or increases risk to the county for non-compliance with administrative code or statutory mandates.

Luster says they’ll first prioritize eliminating vacant positions that don’t impact services, followed by non-mandated positions whose elimination would have the least impact on clients, and positions providing direct services to clients or essential operational supports in mandated areas.

Luster says she’s already submitted just over $580,000 in vacant position cuts.

Recommended staff cuts are due July 31 alongside full county department budget proposals.
