The City of Janesville is starting cleanup after a tornado ripped through the city’s South side late Saturday night.

Deputy City Manager Ryan McCue says there is significant damage throughout the city and one family was trapped in their basement by the storm before being rescued by the Janesville Fire Department, but no injuries have been reported as a result of the storm.

McCue says damage assessment is underway and they don’t yet have a dollar amount linked to the storm, but McFarland Farms suffered significant damage as did parts of the Town of Rock.

Alliant Energy says it could take until Tuesday for affected residents to regain power.

The city says they’ll continue to update the public as more information on the storm becomes available.
