People hit by tornado damage on Janesville’s south side can learn at a special event today what kinds resources they can tap to help fix up their properties.
The city of Janesville, Rock County’s Emergency Management Division, and the Red Cross of Southern Wisconsin are sponsoring a Multi-Agency Resource Center to provide essential tornado recovery services from government and non-government agencies.
The city estimates the tornado caused $20 million in damage.
Assistant to the Janesville city Manager Nick Faust says the event will let residents who have residential or property damage from the storm learn what agencies can help them. He says people will also get tips to avoid so-called “storm-chaser” home repair scams.
An F-2 tornado with winds of 115 miles per hour hit the far south side of Janesville and parts of the town of Rock (Saturday), leaving a swath of residential areas with mangled trees and a handful of homes with roofs blown off.
The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. today at the Dr. Daniel Hale Williams County Resource Center at 1717 Center Avenue in Janesville.
