A 24-year-old Machesney Park man is facing charges of attempting to flee an officer and second-degree recklessly endangering following an incident on Monday in the town of Beloit.

According to the criminal complaint, a Rock County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a van in the town of Beloit after observing it speeding and passing in a no passing zone.

The van fled at speeds of over 100 miles-per-hour, nearly striking a motorcyclist. The Deputy eventually ended the chase but tracked down the suspect after noticing the logo for a Rockford business on the side of the van.

Max. D. Whitaker admitted that he was the driver and that he fled because he was on probation. He turned himself in to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

At Whitaker’s initial appearance in Rock County Court this week, cash bond was set at $2,000.
