The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving a caller claiming to be an actual deputy.

Captain Caleb Beutin says several people have called to report the scam.

Beutin says the caller typically demands payment with a gift card to clear up a warrant or other legal matter.

He adds the sheriff’s office doesn’t collect payment over the phone and would either mail the information or show up at a residence.
