The state Department of Revenue reports the city of Janesville had a 1% decrease in its total equalized value while peer cities, Rock County and the state generally saw increases.
Janesville’s equalized valuation for 2024, which came in at just more than $8 billion, decreased by about $89 million from last year, according to the data released Thursday.
While residential and manufacturing parcels collectively saw increases, the city total commercial assessments were down.
There was also a one-time cut to zero in the state personal property tax assessment, which the state is no longer collecting after a change in state law.
Both city Finance Director Dave Godek and school district Chief Financial Officer Dan McCrea said the dip shouldn’t be anything to worry about come budget time.
