As the School District of Beloit prepares to search for another superintendent, one of its former administrators is coming to Madison to fill the same role.

The Madison Metropolitan School District announced Friday it is hiring Dr. Carlton Jenkins to be its new superintendent. He currently serves as the superintendent of the Robbinsdale School District in the Minneapolis suburb of New Hope.

Jenkins started as a teacher with the School District of Beloit in 1989 before later becoming a principal at Beloit Memorial High School and office of communication coordinator.

He left for the final time in 2010 to become superintendent of the Saginaw School District in Michigan. He returns to Madison where he earned his masters degree and PhD at the University of Wisconsin.

The School District of Beloit recently hired Dr. Daniel Keyser as its new interim superintendent, and the board of education plans to resume the search for a permanent superintendent next school year.
