The Rock County Sheriff’s Department saves two people from the Sugar River near the Town of Newark.

Police received an initial report of two people struggling in the water just before 9:00 p.m. Saturday night in the area near West Carroll Road and West Brandherm Road.

One person was clinging to a kayak and the other an innertube.

The Sheriff’s water rescue team and drone team worked with the Town of Beloit, Orfordville and Brodhead fire departments to locate and rescue a man and a woman from Illinois.

Both received aid from first responders but the sheriff’s office said they did not suffer any serious injuries.
