A 34-year-old Beloit man is accused of fleeing from police at a high rate of speed and then stealing a vehicle while the owner was still inside.

According to a Facebook post, an officer spotted Anthony D. Gillespie driving in the area of Randall and Park Avenues just after 12:30 Wednesday afternoon and attempted to stop him because he has several active felony warrants for his arrest.

Beloit Police say Gillespie took off at a high rate of speed and the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns.

After the pursuit was called off, Gillespie was involved in a crash at Milwaukee and Cranston Roads before entering the drive-thru of a restaurant on Milwaukee Road.

At the restaurant Gillespie forced a woman to the passenger seat of her vehicle and took off. He later let her out at Menards uninjured.

Gillespie was last seen driving the stolen gray Nissan Rogue on East Racine Street near Janesville.
