The State Department of Health Services says MercyHealth should have known better than to start vaccinating teacher against COVID-19 next week.

Department of Health Services Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk says if Mercy was finished vaccinating group 1A, that doesn’t mean they get to move on to the next group.

Willems Van Dijk says MercyHealth should have contacted DHS, who would have re-distributed the vaccine.

Willems Van Dijk says the vaccine in asset of the federal government and MercyHealth signed a contract indicating they would follow certain rules.

Governor Tony Evers says MercyHealth will likely still vaccinate Janesville School District teachers next week since it’s already been announced and at this point it’s too late to walk back.
