A young sexual assault survivor in Beloit reports her abuse because of a popular social movement.

Beloit Police Officer Tala Cornell testified in the preliminary hearing this week for 31-year-old Al Atkins of Janesville, who is accused of sexually assaulting the 11-year-old at least three times.

Officer Cornell said the young girl told her mother about the sexual assaults after she watched a YouTube video about the “Me Too” movement, which encourages survivors to come forward with their trauma.

She reported multiple incidents of Atkins groping her in her Beloit home and exposing himself to her.

He is charged in Rock County Court with first-degree sexual assault of a child, repeated sexual assault of a child and exposing himself to a child.

Online court records show Atkins was released from custody on a $500 cash bond.
