Earlier this week, The United States Census Bureau released their 2020 U.S. Census results, finding that the City of Janesville has 65,615 residents. This figure is an increase of 2,040 residents, or 3.2%, from the 2010 U.S. Census. It represents the largest overall population increase found in Rock County.
“Continued population growth demonstrated Janesville’s ability to draw much-needed labor into the community, helping to drive the growth of our diverse economy”, stated City of Janesville Economic Development Director Gale Price.
This same month, the State of Wisconsin’s Demographic Services Center (DSC) also released its preliminary 2021 population estimations for Janesville. Another notable statistic from the DSC estimates was that the City added 192 housing units in 2020.
“In 2018, the City committed to partnering with the development community by assisting the development of multifamily housing with tax increment financing,” added Economic Development Director Price. “At the same time, local residential development partners have done their part by moving forward on a number of residential projects. This housing development is providing needed housing to our growing workforce.”
