Interest in a career in law enforcement appears to be waning.

Janesville Police Chief David Moore says he used to get 300 applicants for a few open positions but now h gets closer to 60 or 70.

Moore says thankfully it’s not affecting the quality of the applicants.

Moore says he recently hired nine officers who are currently in the police academy and will be entering four months of field training in December. 10 more officers are retiring at the end of the year.

Moore says at some point you need to be worried about the culture of the organization, and fortunately he’s well positioned to take this many people on while maintaining those values and beliefs.
