The City of Janesville’s first noticeable snow fall isn’t much of an obstacle for the plow drivers.
Operations Director Maggie Darr says after prepping to clear several inches of snow earlier this week, she opted not to plow or salt for Tuesday’s minor accumulation.
Darr says all of the traffic on the main streets kept them in good shape, and using salt may have just prevented the snow from melting and it would have eventually froze to the pavement.
Darr says when it’s as cold as it was Tuesday plow drivers typically treat the roads with a calcium chloride instead of salt, which lowers the temperature of the melting capacity – but they didn’t even need to do that.
