A local company secures the low-enriched uranium needed to produce the medical isotopes it hopes to manufacture at a facility under construction by the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport.

SHINE Technologies signed a contract with the National Nuclear Security Administration to obtain the low enriched uranium necessary to produce molybdenum-99.

Moly-99 is used in over 40,000 daily medical diagnostic procedures across the United States to assist in diagnosing life-threatening diseases, including heart disease and cancer.

Piefer says construction continues on SHINE’s facility on Highway 51 near the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport and he hopes to begin production of Moly-99 next year.
