The National Science Foundation has awarded an Assistant Professor at UW-Whitewater a $200 thousand grant to research faster communication systems for self-driving vehicles.  Haijian Sun says even though self-driving capabilities have improved, connectivity technology lags far behind.  Sun says his project is intended to enable cars to connect with each other seamlessly, efficiently, and reliably.  His innovative approach uses a combination of lasers, cameras, and wireless technology.  The grant also includes money to update related curriculum in the classroom.
