A number of area fire departments respond to a blaze at an Evansville bar and restaurant Saturday afternoon. A release from the Evansville Fire Department says a report of smoke in the building on North Madison Street leads Evansville Police to evacuate people from the bar and apartments in the structure. When firefighters discover a blaze in the wall and ceiling of one apartment unit, several other fire departments are called to assist after determining the fire was difficult to reach due to the numerous ceilings above the apartments. Once the fire is extinguished, authorities say the apartments sustained minor to moderate damage, while the business on the first floor, Pete’s Inn, had some water damage. Those living in the apartments in the building will stay with family and friends until the building can be occupied. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and there’s no estimate on the amount of damage from the blaze.
