The Beloit City Plan Commision viewed a proposal to change building ordinances to allow for smaller homes in Beloit last week.

Director of Planning and Building services Drew Pennington says this proposal introduces some flexibility into the zoning code by getting rid of a provision in the zoning code that has a minimum floor area of 1,000 square feet.

Pennington says this won’t create any new permitted uses and each one of the proposals will require neighborhood notification, a detailed plan of what the property owner intends to do, and public hearings before the plan commission and city council.

The plan commission will hear on the proposal again on August 3rd.
