The City of Beloit passed an amendment of an ordinance at Monday night’s meeting that will now allow for the construction of smaller dwellings in the city.
The amendment passed unanimously, with council Vice President Nancy Forbeck enthusiastically moving in favor of the amendment.
Council President Regina Dunkin said the council received multiple letters of support in favor of the amendment, with only one letter against a change to the ordinance.
Dunkin said the amendment will allow for more efficient use of land, especially on vacant lots.
The amendment will now allow dwellings narrower than 25 feet and less than 1,000 square feet to be built.
