A new TIF district on Janesville’s south side aims to help move along negotiations on a plan that includes housing and a 1.5 million square foot hydroponic strawberry green house.

Janesville Economic Director Jimsi Kuborn says the creation of the new TIF district at Center Avenue and Highway 11 gives the city more flexibility for the potential project.

Council member Douglas Marklein says the 171-acre district will be a game changer for the cities south side.

The district may be dissolved before the 20 year maximum based on potential development.

The district, named TIF 40, was unanimously approved at Monday night’s city council meeting.
