The Rock County District Attorney’s Office files a charge against the 39-year-old Janesville woman who’s accused of striking and killing a nine-year-old boy in a cross walk last month.

Brenda Violante faces a single charge of knowingly operating without a valid license causing death.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine and six years in prison, or both.

Violante was stopped for the stop sign at Prairie Avenue and East memorial Drive, but didn’t see the boy crossing the street as she made a right turn.

Janesville Police say Violante likely had a hard time seeing over the dashboard of the large SUV she was driving and that the vehicle also had illegal tint on the windows.

Violante is scheduled to make her initial appearance in Rock County Court on November 7th at 1:00 p.m.
