One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash in the town of Jefferson.

According to a news release, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the accident on State Highway 12 at County Highway C just after 7:30 Wednesday morning.

Preliminary investigation determined that a westbound vehicle lost control on Highway 12 and crossed into the eastbound lanes.

A truck traveling in the eastbound lanes was unable to avoid the vehicle and struck it.

The driver and lone occupant of the truck was not inured.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital where they later died.

The accident remains under investigation.
