The more than 40 year old farboxes which JTS riders currently use are being replaced by an electronic and contactless system this spring.

Transit Director Becca Smith says the new MyJTS system will improve onboard efficiency, disease control, and farebox reliability and security.

Smith says the system will offer riders a wide range of options and the convenience of purchasing rides, loading funds, or managing an account from a smart phone or tablet.

A fare-capping policy was approved by the city council at their Monday meeting, meaning if someone spends $52 in a 30-day period, no further fair is required.

Smith says the electronic fare system will go into effect in April and May.
