By 2030, the State of Wisconsin is hoping to see an increase of electric vehicles on state roads in the future.
31st Assembly District Representative Ellen Schutt of Clinton says if this were to happen, future budgets may need to include fees for people driving electric or hybrid vehicles to offset a reduction in people paying gas taxes.
Schutt says there still isn’t a ton of information on the long term effect of electric vehicles, and she’s started to talk to some of her colleagues about not pushing this initiative until they know more.
The state has a goal of getting 60% of vehicles to be electric by 2030.
