An exciting new cycling event is coming Northern Rock County on June 14, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The Rock Prairie 2023 U.S. Paralympics Cycling Time Trial will be held on the grounds of Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church, 8605 E County Rd A in Janesville, Wisconsin.

“Presented by the Town of Harmony and the Town of Johnstown, the time trial will bring athletes from around the world to compete,” said John Westphal, Event Co-Chair. “We are very pleased to work in partnership with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Tour of America’s Dairyland Presented by Kwik Trip and the Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, to bring this incredible event to the area.”

It is expected that 60 to 100 Para athletes will compete in the 12 different categories/divisions and include two-wheel bicycle, tricycle, handcycle and tandem cyclist. The time trial event is one of the most challenging and exciting disciplines in the sport of cycling. Competitors race against the clock in a timed event and will set off at one-minute intervals, with the fastest time determining the winner. Winners will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals. The event promises to be an impressive display of speed, skill, and endurance. The race serves as a selection event for the 2023 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships, which will take place in August in Glasgow, Scotland.

“Additionally, it’s anticipated that many of the para-athletes will stay over to compete in the handcycling event held during the Janesville Town Square Gran Prix, Presented by Blain’s Farm & Fleet, on June 15, 2023 in downtown Janesville,” said Paul Murphy, Event Chair.

The Paralympic Games provide a platform for athletes with disabilities to showcase their incredible talents and inspire others around the world. The cycling time trial event is just one of many events at the Paralympics, where athletes compete in a variety of sports including athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, and many more.
