A residential fire in Janesville causes $25,000 in damage.

The Janesville Fire Department says firefighters were dispatched to a home on the 400 block of North Chatham Street just after 1:00 Friday afternoon on the report of a kitchen fire.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the the rear of the two-story home.

The occupants of the home reported that there was a fire in the microwave and that it was mostly extinguished.

The Janesville Fire Department finished putting out the fire and ventilated the smoke.

The fire started in the microwave while it was being used to heat up food.
