SHINE Technologies will be opening the largest facility in North America dedicated to the production of Lu-177 in Janesville.

Communications Specialist Eric Schmoldt says Lu-177 is a radioactive agent which delivers highly targeted radiation to kill cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthier cells.

Schmoldt says they currently are producing the isotope at a clinical trial level with a couple hundred doses a year, but this expansion will now allow them to turn out 50 to 100 thousand doses a year with the potential for even more down the road.

Installation of the new equipment is ongoing and slated to be finished in July.
