The phone scams continue as the Rock County Sheriff’s office is reporting another string of phony calls.
According to a release, the Rock County Communications Center reported phone calls from four different citizens throughout the county who indicated they received scam calls from Sergeant Rossmiller with the Sheriff’s Office.
In each case, the caller is male, with a southern accent and has left messages for some people indicating they need to return his call regarding an urgent legal matter, and the calls came from the same number which appears to be an untraceable voiceover IP number from the Internet.
In one instance, where someone answered the phone, the suspect advised a man he had missed a court proceeding in federal court and when the caller hung up; the impersonator called back and the caller ID showed the main directory line to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens they would never ask for money over the phone and they should report any suspicious calls.
