One local state senator is introducing new legislation which would make changes to Wisconsin’s Homestead Tax Credit.
Mark Spreitzer of Beloit says this is a credit which helps homeowners and renters stay in their homes, particularly low income residents and seniors, by providing an offset on their income taxes to offset property taxes.
Spreitzer says they want to increase the maximum household income to qualify for the credit to $35,000 year, up from the current amount of just under $25,000, and they’re also trying to increase the amount of the credit and index it for inflation.
The Homestead Tax Credit has not been increased since 2010.
