Authorities say a fire damaged a duplex on Janesville’s west side and displaced a family Monday afternoon.
The Janesville Fire Department says fire and police were called about 4:30 p.m. Monday to a basement fire near a clothes dryer in a split-level duplex at 429 N. Grant Street.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, but it caused about 40,000 in damage to the property. Residents evacuated and no one was injured.
Red Cross is assisting two adults and two children authorities say were displaced by the blaze.
The fire is under investigation.
