The City of Beloit is working to get the lead out. Literally.

In 2023 Beloit was selected to take part in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead Accelerator Program.

The City of Beloit has 16,000 water service lines.

Director of Water Resources Josh Shere says of the 5,800 that are known to contain lead, 3,000 have already been replaced, and 2,800 remain.

Shere says the City plans to hire a dig crew and replace those pipes on its own. A lot of the equipment has already been ordered.
