Whitewater police are investigating what they are calling an apparent homicide Saturday morning.

Officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of West Whitewater Street in downtown Whitewater for a report of a person with a gunshot wound at 11:54 p.m. Friday.

When they arrived, they say they found a 21-year-old woman dead with multiple gunshot injuries.

Also at the apartment was a 23-year-old man who knew the woman. Police say they determined there had been an altercation between the two before the shooting, and the man was detained.
