A 37-year-old Beloit man is accused of giving a 14-year-old drugs and getting her pregnant pleads not guilty to charges against him.

David Lavelle Hamlet had his preliminary hearing in Rock County Court on charges first degree sexual assault, second degree sexual assault of a child under 16, and distribution of narcotics to minors.

Court Commissioner Mason Braunschweig found that enough evidence had been presented that a felony had probably been committed by Hamlet and bound him over for trial.

According to the criminal complaint Hamlet got the girl “hooked” on Molly in August of 2023 and at some point tried to have sex with her.

The teen told police she thought Hamlet sexually assaulted her while she was asleep and “high” on Molly. She reported the assault when she found out she was pregnant.

According to the criminal complaint, a DNA test linked Hamlet to the crime.

He is currently being held in the Rock County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
