A Beloit woman will spend the next five years in prison for stabbing a man she had a “toxic relationship” with in 2019.

44-year-old Amy Pittman pleaded guilty to second-degree recklessly causing injury with a dangerous weapon and a separate case of battery by prisoner.

Rock County Judge Karl Hanson sentenced her to five years behind bars followed by five years of extended supervision and three additional years of probation.

Defense attorney Kelly Freeman said Pittman was in “a very toxic relationship that was very abusive on both sides,” and alcohol abuse only made the situation worse.

Freeman and assistant district attorney Mark Jahnke reached a plea agreement with a joint recommendation for sentencing, which judge Hanson followed.

Pittman apologized to the court and acknowledged her need for treatment.
