The Janesville Alcohol License Advisory Committee holds off on repealing an ordinance which restricts the number of liquor stores in the City.

City Clerk Dave Godek says currently the City’s quota for Class A licenses is set at 19 and the City Council has granted seven licenses over the quota.

At their meeting Tuesday morning the ALAC opted to leave the current ordinance in place and have further discussions with the City Council before making a final determination in January when the Committee is expected to have two new members.

Committee Chair Paul Williams says the City Council and the ALAC could consider some other way of regulating liquor stores such as how close they are to another liquor store or how close they are to a school or other location where children are often present.
