The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is reminding boaters to play it safe on the waterways this holiday weekend.

Recreational Patrol Deputy Eric Cisneros says canoeing and kayaking may seem like simple fun but can become dangerous quick.

Cisneros says deputies have installed waterway emergency markers along the Yahara River, Sugar River, and Turtle Creek to help boaters track their locating in case of an emergency.

Cisneros says the Rock County 911 Communications Center has the GPS coordinates of all of the markers.
