The Wisconsin Department of Transportation decides on a case by case basis who will pay for road repairs when pavement is damaged due to a crash.

Communications Manager Steven Thiesen says risk management staff are still working to determine who’s liable for the repairs from the two crashes last week.

State department of transportation officials say the fires from crashes on July 5th and 6th cracked and damaged portions of the interstate that then needed to be repaired, causing extra delays in reopening.

A semi driver was cited for unsafe lane deviation in relation to the crash on July 5th.
