The Rock County District’s Office clears a Beloit Police officer of an wrongdoing in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a suspect who attempted to grab her service weapon.

According to a news release 29-year-old Jorge Bautista Almaraz threw himself into the passenger side of a vehicle driving in the 1500 block of Prairie Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on December 15th.

When Sergeant Shannon Dykstra stopped to take a report and attempted to make contact with Almaraz, he appeared to be having a mental health issue.

The Rock County District Attorney’s Office says body camera footage shows Almaraz lunging for Sergeant Dyktra’s gun before she draws her service weapon and shoots him twice.

Almaraz was transported to a local hospital and eventually release and charged with criminal damage to property and attempting to disarm a peace officer.
