With the increase in reliance on lithium battery powered items, the city of Janesville is teaming up with the Wisconsin DNR to promote battery safety on National Battery Day Saturday.

Operations Director Maggie Darr says when improperly disposed of and damaged, batteries can lead to dangerous fires like the one at the city’s sanitary landfill in July of last year.

Darr says the city’s has a webpage specifically designated for electronics, and lists local places where people can recycle electronics safely.
